How can modern AI methods advance medical research and care? At the international AI conference IJCAI-ECAI 2026 in Bremen , CAIMed mentor Prof. Dr. Marius Lindauer presented current approaches and examples of applications for the medicine of tomorrow.
In his presentation, Lindauer demonstrated how CAIMed integrates AI research, medical research, and clinical application. The examples ranged from predicting sepsis in pediatric intensive care to computer-aided image analysis for lung cancer diagnosis, as well as foundation models and causal AI. At the same time, they highlighted CAIMed’s goal of developing new approaches for so-called “World Models for Medicine.”
At the booth of the Northern AI Research Alliance (NAIRA), Lindauer also presented current CAIMed use cases. The discussion focused on how trustworthy and causal AI can contribute to better clinical research and care.
The research presented sparked interest among representatives from the fields of education, business, and society. The conference thus provided an opportunity to discuss the potential of medical AI as well as the challenges associated with its use, and to introduce CAIMed’s research to an international audience of experts.
