On 24 June 2026, the CAIMed community came together for its latest Meet-Up in Hannover, focusing on the topic „Mashine Learning beyond textual data“. The event once again underlined the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange in advancing artificial intelligence in medicine.
The day began at Appelstraße 11A with the HAIMed-Workshop, a CAIMed-„Shark Tank“-Experiment designed to encourage creative problem-solving, teamwork, and exchange among PhD students and participants. Following an introductory session, participants worked intensively in groups to develop and refine their ideas in a collaborative setting.
In the afternoon, the Meet-Up continued at the Königlichen Pferdestall der Leibniz Universität Hannover at Leibniz University Hannover. Participants gathered for a light lunch and networking before the keynote programme began. The invited speakers offered valuable insights into current developments and applications of machine learning beyond text-based approaches.
The Meet-Up featured keynote contributions from Prof. Dr. Nico Lachmann from the Institute of Experimental Hematology at Hannover Medical School, Dr. Paula Perez-Toro from the Pattern Recognition Lab at Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Technical University of Munich, and Dr. Philip Hempel from the Institute of Medical Informatics at the University Medical Center Göttingen.
A central part of the programme was the presentation of the HAIMed results. The participating teams showcased the concepts and approaches they had developed during the working phase, demonstrating the creativity and interdisciplinary potential within the CAIMed network. The event concluded with the announcement of the winning team and a farewell.
With its combination of hands-on collaboration, scientific exchange, keynote lectures, and networking opportunities, the CAIMed Meet-Up provided an inspiring platform for discussing how machine learning can be applied to diverse forms of medical and biomedical data beyond text.
