About us
CAIMed is the Lower Saxony research center for artificial intelligence and causal methods in medicine. We develop innovative methods for improved, personalized healthcare and contribute to the management of widespread diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. The combination of excellent locations in Lower Saxony for methodical AI research, data-intensive medicine, medical informatics and basic medical research creates a unique flagship project for research on AI and personalized medicine.
CAIMed relies on the linking of research data, clinical data and patient care data as well as the use of artificial intelligence and causal methods. This enables prevention, diagnostics, therapy and monitoring of therapeutic success to become more effective and efficient and the individual needs of each person to be better identified and served.
Our locations
The center is supported by scientists from the L3S Research Center at Leibniz University Hannover, Hannover Medical School, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research Braunschweig / Center for Individualized Infection Medicine (CiiM), the Georg-August University Göttingen / Campus Institute Data Science (CIDAS) and the University Medical Center Göttingen.
Hanover
The L3S Research Center is a joint institution of Leibniz University Hannover and Braunschweig Technical University. It is the largest AI research facility in Lower Saxony with an annual budget of €14 million. Around 200 international researchers from various disciplines work at L3S to develop intelligent, responsible and reliable systems for the digital transformation. Together with the MHH, the L3S is already researching the possibility of using artificial intelligence to answer questions of personalized medicine in the "LeibnizAILab".
Patienteneinträgen größte Biodatenbank in Deutschland.
Brunswick
The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Brunswick is a publicly funded research institution. It is part of the Helmholtz Association, the largest scientific organization in Germany outside the universities. The scientists at the HZI research various mechanisms of infections and their defense. They contribute to improving the scientific community's understanding of the pathogenicity of bacteria and viruses, which is crucial for the development of effective new treatments and vaccines.
With over 120 institutes, TU Braunschweig (Carolo-Wilhelmina) offers the prerequisites for future-oriented research and teaching: engineering and natural sciences form the core academic disciplines, closely networked with economics and social sciences as well as the humanities and educational sciences. The TU Braunschweig is one of the top German universities in terms of third-party funding. It is a member of "TU9 - German Institutes of Technology", an association of Germany's leading technical universities.
Goettingen
The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is a leading medical institution in Germany. It combines the Faculty of Medicine with research and teaching and the University Hospital with patient care. With 67 clinics, institutes and departments and around 1,450 beds, it provides maximum care for the whole of southern Lower Saxony. The UMG has set itself the goal of further developing diagnostics and therapy on the basis of excellent research.
Funding
CAIMed is funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony with funds from the program zukunft.niedersachsen of the VolkswagenStiftung.
