Prof. Dr. Ramin Yahyapour

Director

Prof. Dr. Ramin Yahyapour is Professor of Computer Science and Spokesperson of the Göttingen Campus Institute for Data Science CIDAS. He is also Managing Director of the GWDG, a joint scientific computing center of the Max Planck Society and the University of Göttingen, a national high-performance computing center and AI service center. He is also CIO of the University and University Medical Center in Göttingen. His scientific focus is on data- and compute-intensive applications, cloud computing and data science infrastructures.

What potential and challenges do you see in interdisciplinary collaboration in CAIMed for your field?

Data availability and quality are typical challenges in this area. In CAIMed, we have a unique combination thanks to our close cooperation with university medical centers.

How important is collaboration between AI experts and healthcare professionals for the success of AI in medicine?

The medical research question and validation are essential for progress in this area. This enables us to further develop methods, but also to address medical needs.

What challenges are associated with the integration of AI in medicine, particularly with regard to data protection and ethics?

AI in medicine almost always handles sensitive data, which makes availability difficult. You need secure environments for data analysis, but also the ethical and legal framework to use this data. CAIMed brings together the necessary expertise to find solutions here too.
