Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Thum is Director of the IMTTS (Institute for Molecular and Translational Therapy Strategies) at Hannover Medical School, which he founded in 2009. His group focuses on heart disease, in particular heart failure and cardiac remodeling. They use RNA-based and other drug-based approaches to develop new strategies to combat cardiovascular diseases. In addition, they are developing anti-fibrotic treatment strategies for a broad spectrum of organ fibrosis.

"The use of AI will revolutionize use of the dark genome consisting of many so far unrecognized noncoding RNA molecules to develop next generation diagnostics and treatments of patients with cardiovascular disease or organ fibrosis."
