Prof. Dr. Thomas Illig is Scientific Director and CEO of the Hannover Unified Biobank. At CAIMed, he is the mentor of the newly created junior research group “AI and Bioinformatics”. One focus of this group will be the pre-processing of molecular data into standardized data sets, which will also be used in the analyses of the other CAIMed junior research groups. The aim is to combine molecular and clinical data in an unbiased and systematic way using novel AI methods in order to better understand infectious diseases and oncological diseases, for example.

“A high-quality database is an indispensable cornerstone for the development of AI-supported methods to improve patient care. In this sense, the Hannover Unified Biobank will be a reliable hub for CAIMed to access biospecimen, associated clinical data as well as molecular data.”
