How artificial intelligence can support clinical decision-making, where the practical hurdles lie in the use of data and AI, and why smart solutions will shape the hospital of the future were key topics during a delegation visit organised by the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce to Gothenburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the 15 representatives from the fields of science, the healthcare industry and healthcare provision \u2013 including CAIMed Managing Director Johannes Winter \u2013 the programme included visits to Vitalis, the leading Nordic eHealth trade fair; GoCo Health Innovation City, which houses sites of M\u00f6lnlycke Health Care and AstraZeneca; Sahlgrenska University Hospital; and the Medicinareberget Campus of the University of Gothenburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The delegation gained insights into Swedish healthcare reform and the primary care system. The focus was also on the promotion of medical and data-driven innovations, as well as AI-supported healthcare. Particularly evident was the close collaboration between academia, clinics, businesses and the public sector, which is regarded as the foundation for the high level of innovation in the Swedish healthcare system. At the same time, challenges emerged regarding data processing, interoperability and the regulatory compliance of data and AI usage, which have so far limited the potential of AI applications in everyday clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One example from research at the Health Innovation Lab was AI-supported proteomics. The combination of high-resolution mass spectrometry with neural networks enables high-throughput proteomics analyses with extensive coverage and high reproducibility. Further impetus came from the innovation and translation structures at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sweden demonstrates a high level of innovation in the healthcare sector. This gives rise to a wide range of potential synergies with institutions such as the Lower Saxony Centre for AI and Causal Methods in Medicine, where leading North German research on AI, medicine and ethics is brought together with clinical translation and care to accelerate the transfer of innovative solutions into medical practice.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
